TAPEOP.COM v4.0 IS NOW LIVE!!!

Yes folks, the cyber-version of Tape Op is now a fully operational 21st century model. We've completely overhauled the old site from design to navigation to searchability to content and are really excited about our print magazine finally having a suitable online companion (no, we don't think print is dead yet). So what does this mean for you, the Tape Op reader?? Well, for starters:

- A complete and searchable archive of ALL Tape Op reviews, both past and present, as well as online-only bonus reviews

- A multimedia section for audio and video content to go along with our articles (you know, so you can like, HEAR the gear that we spend so much time talking about? Or SEE the studios that we meticulously describe?)

- RSS subscribe-able news/events feed and blog

In addition to having web only bonus content, the new site will augment and expand each issue of the print magazine. So when Tape Op arrives in your mailbox, jump on to TapeOp.com to view the corresponding articles/reviews/videos/audio/whatever else we've got for you.

More features are on their way soon, including comments for articles and reviews, searchable print magazine archives and probably a whole bunch of other stuff we haven't thought of yet. In the meantime, please enjoy our new site and let us know what you think!

BSW TRIPLE GEAR GIVEAWAY!!

Listen up, Tape Op readers! BSW has dug deep - this is serious gear that will be a great addition to just about any recording rig.

Prize #1: A pair of ADAM A5 studio monitors($799). The A5s are a compact set of nearfields that utilize folded ribbon tweeter technology. Check out this link for more info.

Prize #2: Mojave Audio MA-201 FET mic($695). The MA-201 is a David Royer designed large diaphragm FET condenser mic with a a Jensen transformer. Here's what Craig Schumacher had to say about the MA201 when he reviewed it in issue 70:

"The Mojave MA-201 FET is obviously the perfect large-diaphragm condenser mic for the small budget studio and home recordist, but it's also equally at home in our commercial studio. I've paid considerably more for mics that the MA-201 FET is equal to in design and specification, and yet some of these mics are not as suitable for multiple tasks like the Mojave is. Once again, Mojave has produced a winner." (read the full review)

Prize #3: RME Babyface($799). This is a brand-new highly compact desktop USB interface from RME that provides 10 input and 12 output channels at up to 192 kHz. Check out this link for more info.

PHILL BROWN'S Are We Still Rolling? NOW AVAILABLE FROM TAPE OP BOOKS!!

In issue #12 Larry Crane and Chris Eckman interviewed Phill Brown, a producer/engineer with credits like Mott the Hoople, David Bowie, Sly Stone, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Robert Palmer, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Steve Winwood, Harry Nilsson, John Martyn, Roxy Music, Talk Talk, Throwing Muses and Dido. Shortly after that he allowed Tape Op to run a series of excerpts (issues 16 to 32) from his unpublished book, Are We Still Rolling? After waiting over seven years for a publisher to step forward and release this fine book, Tape Op Books decided to take the job on. An amazing story, this is one of the finest memoirs of classic studio sessions one will ever read, with Phill's own personal story setting an arc across the music of the '60s to the current day. A must read for fans of music, studio rats or anyone curious about the changing culture of the music world.
