One time Tape Op writer and manager of MinerStreet/CycleSound studio in Philadelphia, Brian McTear is also a musician, having played in Marinernine and Mazarin among others. So what does he do when ready to make a solo CD? Use as few tracks as possible. Most of this record is acoustic guitar and vocals, with a few guest musicians aiding sparsely. In these times when everyone's home studio is churning out 64 track tributes to Pet Sounds or Loveless, it's nice to see someone with a full commercial studio at their disposal sketch out their songs as stark as this - and the tunes hold up.

Tape Op is a bi-monthly magazine devoted to the art of record making.
