Whether you have been a fan of The Pixies and their indie rock masterworks Surfer Rosa and Doolittle since the late-'80sor are just joining the conversation, you'll love their new release, The Night The Zombies Came.

It is my personal favorite since the band reunited for 2014's Indie Cindy. Standout tracks include the punky-surfy "You're So Impatient", the dreamy "Chicken", the 'get in the car and drive fast down a straight road in the desert' "Johnny Good Man", and the barn burner "Oyster Beds". You can hear Lou Reed vibes on "Mercy Me", but more than anything the record is a great example of the countless bands The Pixies have so obviously influenced throughout the years.

Original Pixies bassist Kim Deal (Tape Op #159) left the band in 2013 (and has a new solo LP out soon, Nobody Loves You More), but the recent addition of bassist Emma Richardson seems to be a good fit, and her harmony vocals are fantastic.

Produced and Mixed by Tom Delgety.
