New Music From Tycho: Infinite Health

Bay Area native Scott Hansen, a.k.a. Tycho (Tape Op #123), has just released his sixth album, Infinite Health on Mom+Pop Records/Ninja Tune.

Fans familiar with Tycho will hear Infinite Health as a logical progression in a sequence of albums that started in 2006 with Past is Prologue, and that has traversed through titles such as Dive, Awake, Epoch, and Weather. It may be my San Francisco roots, but Tycho's music has always perfectly captured the visual landscape of Northern California in musical form, and Infinite Health is no different.

The band has always incorporated electric guitar into the music, but Infinite Health has it noticably featured on several tracks, alongside suggestions of Boards of Canada-esque warbling synths, wisps of Talking Heads, and a healthy dose of more up-tempo dance-friendly tracks. Synth aficianatos will hear the Roland Juno and Korg minilogue featured throughout the album.

Guests on Infinite Health include Cautious Clay and longtime colloaborator Zac Brown.

Scott Hansen has also been a guest on the Tape Op Podcast (Ep. #34, Ep. #10), so dive in!

Tape Op is a bi-monthly magazine devoted to the art of record making.
