My pals have finally lost their minds. Apparently they wore blue ribbons to the Grammy Awards last week in protest of the use of Auto-Tune, and specifically mentioned Kanye West's new album, 808s & Heartbreak. Okay guys, I'm thinking of asking for a ban on using RADAR, punch-ins, bands building their own studios and appealing to teenage girls with soppy lyrics. (Sorry Ben, had to do it!) I like the music these jerks make a lot, and I like the people, but when you start laying down rules on how records "should" be made you're just full of shit. See my satirical "Purity and Honesty in Recordings" End Rant from Tape Op #67, or read it here. History proves this right. I hope it was a publicity stunt to support lo sales of their "Tiny Steps" album.
Tape Op is a bi-monthly magazine devoted to the art of record making.
