I had a session coming in that was seeking to record, overdub, and mix three songs in one 10-hour day. I figured I'd need some help, so I hired one of our faithful staff as an assistant. I had her come in early, set up a drum set and microphones to my spec, get levels, route headphones, and more. This allowed us to have a 10 a.m. start time and begin rolling almost immediately. As I was getting the singer/guitarist situated in an iso booth, I glanced down at the 16-channel headphone mixer and wondered, "What is that weird symbol on channel 8?" I thought about the routing, and channel 8 was assigned to the DAW's click track or metronome, but I'd never seen this symbol used to denote that before. I wondered if it would confuse the artists on the session, though I think we never even ended up using a click track, so it never came up.
