Gilmour's latest release, Luck and Strange, is musically rich and has some great moments featuring his daughter Romany, most notably on the cover of The Montgolfier Brothers' "Between Two Points", and Gilmour's guitar playing and voice are in peak form.
My favorite songs on the album are the beautiful bonus track, "Yes, I Have Ghosts", also featuring Romany Gilmour, and the 14 minute "original barn jam" version of the album's title track, "Luck and Strange", which has former Pink Floyd bandmate Richard Wright on keys. On this track you get to be in the room for what amounts to a long instrumental blues jam, featuring a slow patient build and lots of space for Gilmour and Wright to instrumentally stretch out.
The album also has appearances from Steve Gadd, Roger Eno, Guy Pratt, Gabriel Gilmour, Rob Gentry, Adam Betts, Tom Herbert, and Steve DiStanislao. The bulk of the lyrics were written by Gilmour's wife, author Polly Samson.
Luck and Strange was produced by Gilmour and Charlie Andrew, engineered by Matt Glasbey and Damon Iddins, mixed by Matt Glasbey, Gilmour, and Charlie Andrew, and mastered by Dick Beetham.
