J Mascis + the Fog: Free So Free

REVIEWED BY Larry Crane

ISSUE NO. 32 November 15, 2002

In issue #27 we interviewed J about his home studio, Bob's Place, named after his dog. Here's his second album from there, and it sounds great. Big guitar solos and different sounds for each song help with the record's classic rock feel. Engineers include Mark Allen Miller, Steve Revitte, Thom Monahan and Don Depew. John Agnello came up to mix, and sat behind the console with automated faders! Greg Calbi did another fine mastering job at Sterling Sound. (www.ultimatummusic.com)
