This record came out a few years ago but since Spin Art has been totally lame about sending us promo CDs I had to wait 'til I bought it to do a review. Jason is a great pop songwriter (John and Andy and I recently interviewed him while in L.A.) and he now has a nifty studio space with Pro Tools and lots of funky gear, but these recordings were (mostly) done on a borrowed Tascam Porta-One 4-track cassette recorder. He admits to bouncing a number of tracks, but I still don't know how he got such full-sounding tunes out of this machine. I guess he just used his ears! Look for an interview soon.

Tape Op is a bi-monthly magazine devoted to the art of record making.
