New classical? Rock musicians playing quiet music? Whatever one wishes to call it the music of Rachel's is evocative and beautiful. A seven piece ensemble augmented in places with members of the SITI company and their students, plus many snippets of voices in places, this album is a sonic journey. The band recorded many pieces on Tascam DA 38 and 88 in various locations. Bob Weston then recorded some live performances live in several halls on his iBook, two MOTU 828 and fast external FireWire drive (which the band ended up using for the entire project) with a bunch of his mic pres. Everything ended up in Pro Tools eventually but was mixed back into analog at SOMA studios in Chicago on a Neotek Series II desk with all analog processing/outboard onto 1/2-inch (ATR 102). Mastering by the excellent JJ Golden.
