Since we last talked to Scott Bomar for Tape Op 44 he's done the soundtracks for the movies Hustle and Flow and Black Snake Moan as well as opening up his Electraphonic Recording Studios in Memphis. He produced and recorded The Safecracker there on the one inch 8-track Scully machine you can see in the photos from his interview in Tape Op. This is great stuff, a three piece instrumental band in the classic tradition of Memphis soul-jazz and funk. You can't go wrong with song titles like "The Whap-A-Dang" and "Poppin'". This was mastered direct off the analog tapes by Larry Nix on the same gear he used to use every day at Stax Records. www.electraphonicrecording.com -JB
