Art of Flying: Though the Light Seem Small

REVIEWED BY Larry Crane

ISSUE NO. 77 February 9, 2014

Journalists talk about Giant Sand and Calexico as if the desert informs and sculpts their recorded output, but I'd like to point anyone looking for some really lost-in-the-high-desert music towards these cats and their damaged tunes. Captivating and fun to listen to, these tracks jump around and cover a bit of sonic territory. Recorded by Mike Stanioch at The Barn Recorder, Questa, NM (a cool adobe building, see issue # 4!). Co-produced and mixed by band stalwarts David Costanza and Anne Speroni. Mastered by the dashing Jason Ward at Chicago Mastering Service. (www.discobolus.net) -LC
