Gladie’s third LP out now: No Need to Be Lonely

Gladie’s third LP, No Need to Be Lonely, shows up right on time. With Jeff Rosenstock in issue #172, this feels like a natural extension of that conversation, offering a look at his work in a producer role. As Jeff puts it via his Substack, the songs on No Need to Be Lonely are “so catchy” with “smart / warm / funny / sad / beautiful” lyrics, and they “really grabbed [him] and didn’t let go.”

Initially approached by songwriter Augusta “Gus” Koch for feedback, Rosenstock asked to come on board as producer after spending time with the demos. What unfolded from there is less about control and more about presence. Jeff describes being a “cheerleader in the room,” and the story around the sessions backs that up, with people rearranging plans after tragedy to be there and make it happen. It’s a reminder that some of the best things we do in this life come from people showing up for each other and working toward a common goal.

That same spirit carries through on the recording side as well, with Jack Shirley [issue #116] engineering as the band tracked live to tape, letting performances speak for themselves.
