New Shearwater Album and Videos

Jonathan Meiburg is busy person. He’s an author and musician who has written for Tape Op, and who we interviewed in issue #148 on his work with his group Loma. Meiburg is also the principal songwriter in Shearwater along with Emily Lee and Dan Duszynski. Dan is also in Loma, and they have a new LP, The New World, out July 31st.

Much of the album reflects Jonathan’s experiences on an ocean voyage to Antarctica aboard Expedition PS152 in December of 2025, in his role as a biologist and author researching his next book on that continent. The New World is an ambitious work, but also one with a lot of space and restraint. Check out the first two singles, “Daydream Unbeliever” and “More and More,” below – featuring footage from the PS152 expedition – and then check out the “Slugs in the Marigolds” video, which might make you feel like you’re just one small part of this New World we all live in. I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of this LP when it’s released next week.

Besides the three core members, the LP also features Shahzad Ismaily [#151], Leo Abrahams [#111], Danny Reisch [#146], and Laurie Anderson makes a guest appearance on vocals on the final track, “You and Your Dog.”
