Check out the new track, “Domestic Workers Song,” from Dawn Landes. The song was originally written in 1939 but it’s still relevant and timely, and the recording is a fun sing-a-long romp with nods to The Band and the upstate NY music scene where producer Josh Kaufman is based. The song is a companion piece to
The Liberated Woman’s Songbook that Landes and Kaufman released earlier this year, with tracks that were composed as far back as 1830 and that cover a decade and a half up to the track “Liberation, Now!,” written in 1970. The production is loose and fun, but also polished and sonically hi-fi and a fun listen throughout.
Larry interviewed Dawn back in Tape Op #80, and since then Dawn has become a contributor to Tape Op, and done interviews with Linda Perry and Josh Kaufman among other folks. I met Josh when he was touring with Dawn about a decade ago when they played Davis, CA, so it’s nice to see them working together again!
