Ringo Starr rings in the new year with the T Bone Burnett-produced album, Look Up. The collection stands firmly in the Americana realm, and just like it did when he sang the country tinged/rockabilly tunes "Act Naturally," "Honey Don't," and "I Wanna Be Your Man" on early Beatles albums, it works. Look Up's notable guests include Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, Larkin Poe, Lucius, Greg Leisz, Joe Walsh, and Allison Krauss.

On the whole, the album is a great listen. The production is open, the tones are great, and the playing and singing is on point. I have always liked Ringo's voice, and on Look Up it is nicely complemented by his guest vocalists.
As mentioned, the album was produced by T Bone Burnett along with Daniel Tashian, who is also a co-writer on many of Look Up's songs. Tape Op's editor, Larry Crane, interviewed Daniel recently; look for that interview soon in issue #166.
Grab yourself some BBQ, the shade of a Texas oak tree and give Look Up a spin.
