The Tape Op Shop is Back Up!

Thanks to our friend Shawn Scott of SSStudio Design Co., we’ve got our Tape Op shop back up and running again.

Thanks to everybody who bought the Tape Op Vol. 2 book last month! We still have a few copies available, but we’re down to the last few so the sale is over.

We’re also getting the physical back issues up, with #170 available now, and many more to follow. Sam Styrsky, who helps us with subscription support, is overseeing that project, and we hope to have that finished up in the next few months. So, if there is a particular back issue of Tape Op you’re looking for, check back over the next few weeks.

And thanks to Shawn’s work and the miracle of on-demand printing, we also have some t-shirts and a special poster available this month.

Shawn did the cover art for Tape Op #166, which was based on a Chladni plate experiment on YouTube that uses a tone generator and a driver attached to a metal plate with sand on top of the plate. Tones are then sent to the plate, and different frequencies create different geometric patterns in the sand, with higher frequencies creating more complex patterns. To be honest, when Shawn first sent me the art it went right over my head until he sent me the video explaining it! I asked him to put one more element that might tie it a bit more explicitly to audio, and he added the little knob at the bottom. I think this is one of my favorite covers, and I’ve had several people tell me how much they like it, so it makes sense to have this as one of our first custom Tape Op cover art t-shirts

Shawn also set up some basic Tape Op logo tees in white, black and six other colors, so Tape Op t-shirts have finally arrived!

In another bit of synchronicity, when I sent Shawn the cover art for issue #170 by Ruthy Kim, he asked about a poster for it as he lives with two black cats. Ruthy is an artist who lives in Los Angeles, and had reached out to us about a cover. A lot of us here at Tape Op are cat people, so we were pretty stoked on it! Ruthy and Shawn worked out a simple poster design from Ruthy’s art, and that is available now as well.

Look for more fun Tape Op-related posters, shirts, and more in the future.

Thanks as always for reading and supporting Tape Op!
